Downtown

The Downtown Sheffield Project is to make regular recordings from the city centre. Recorded by a visually impaired person with the assistance of a sighted guide.

The aim is to record a specific route containing information such as shops and businesses, public works with tips about accessing shops affected by these, special deals and a little history.

If you have any comments or suggestions please email alan@eyecan.org.uk

Happy listening.

Photo of Castle Square tram stop looking up High Street with what used to be Primark behind the photographer and for the older people Primark was C & A and the tram stop was the location of the hole in the road, which was at ground level a roundabout with an opening to an underground level. Spaced around the side roads was a number of access steps and ramps, which led to a network of underground tunnels for the public. Some shops where accessed from this lower level and the famous fish tank, which was a popular meeting place for those first dates.
